You aren’t dating, you just broke up with someone, if you were going to mark your facebook status “single” would be checked off- but guess what?  You still may not be single.  If you have a job/career you are in a relationship.  I know, I know, just when you thought you had it easy.  Just when you thought you were detached- you’re NOT.  Think about it, working has all the aspects of being in a relationship.  You’re devoting a good portion of your life to it.  You experience highs and lows in the work climate.  You’re interacting with people in some way or another (which are relationships too despite being romantic or not).  So what does this all mean?  Well for starters, if you think about how you feel when you are in a good relationship (in the traditional sense) versus a bad relationship, you will probably experience the same feelings about work.  This is a great way to tell if you are actually in the correct field or not.  Now no relationship is perfect and we all find ourselves wanting to escape it at one point or another.  But, when you are feeling you want to escape on a consistent basis then you know that it’s time to break-up.  The same holds true for our jobs.  An unending feeling of misery probably means that this position just isn’t right for you; and it’s time to break away and move on.  But how do we know if we’re overreacting or not?  How do you know if you have just a job or a career on your hands?  Stay tuned for those answers tomorrow as I coach you through the new relationship you probably weren’t aware of…
